The Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) is thrilled to announce its first export of "Made-in-Benin" garments to Europe. This milestone shipment, destined for the renowned French brand KIABI, includes 80,000 carefully crafted children’s leggings. KIABI, a major player in the retail clothing and accessories market, operates nearly 563 stores across France, Spain, Italy, Africa, the Middle East, and Overseas Departments and Regions (DROM). This initial order marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between SIPI-Bénin and KIABI, with plans to deliver 2 million clothing pieces in 2024 and 4 million in 2025.

Following two years of negotiations, this inaugural export represents a significant achievement for Benin's textile industry. It highlights Benin's ability to meet international market demands while maintaining high-quality standards. KIABI joins other prestigious brands, such as The Children’s Place (TCP) and US POLO ASSN, which have already signed clothing delivery contracts with GDIZ, further establishing the Zone as a key hub for textile production in Africa.

Létondji BEHETON, Managing Director of SIPI-Bénin S.A, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, stating: "This first shipment of children’s leggings to KIABI is a proud moment for us and a clear demonstration of our commitment to promoting the Beninese textile industry on the global stage. It is the start of a long-term partnership with KIABI. By the end of 2024, we will have produced 2 million garments for the brand, showcasing our ability to meet international standards while ensuring top-notch quality. KIABI is increasingly looking to collaborate with Africa for its garment production and plans to expand its retail footprint on the continent. With Benin’s dynamic and skilled workforce, we are well-positioned to capitalize on these new market opportunities."

Penagos Juan, CEO of KIABI Sourcing, also shared his enthusiasm: "We are excited to partner with SIPI-Bénin S.A, the entity responsible for developing, promoting, and managing GDIZ. This collaboration aligns perfectly with KIABI’s strategy of bringing production closer to our retail locations. With several stores in Africa, we are now producing KIABI garments locally at GDIZ. Our goal is to manufacture thirty million pieces in Africa, and ARISE is the ideal partner to achieve this by integrating sustainability and utilizing 100% Made in Africa cotton. We are just at the beginning of this exciting journey, and we are proud to embark on it alongside ARISE and the Republic of Benin."
